These checklists list just about every universal design feature that can be included in a home. The more features present, the greater the safety, as these features collectively minimize risk of injury for everyday activities.
This resource is available for posterity. It was published in 2014 and has been replaced by the Residential Universal Design Building Code in 2022.
NB: There is no universal design standard, and we won’t claim that our material is the benchmark by which homes should be designed. However, these checklists address features that affect every common task performed in the home. The littlest details can make the biggest difference.
