Light switches at both ends of hallways & pathways are ideal, as well as being within easy reach of any doorway. This is important for safety and convenience when entering and exiting an area when light levels are low. Fumbling in the dark to turn on the lights is no fun, and if switches are inconvenient to use, chances are higher for lights to be left on when not needed, increasing energy costs.
